Downstairs, the dining room has been moved around so that the tables are clubbed together with the food spread out on them. There are mini pizzas, Eggnog Cinnamon rolls, cranberry and Brie tartlets and sausage rolls. There is a Christmas tree made of cold meats and cheese; there are also mince pies and cookies for dessert. It all looks delicious, and I canât wait to tuck in.
In the living room area, some of the dining chairs have been added to give more seating. Christmas songs are playing on low in the background. Most of the guests are already here. Hunter is already there, too and he seems to spot me straight away. Like he can sense me, this thought sends a chill over my body in a good way.
âYou look stunning.â
âThank you. You donât look so bad yourself,â I say while looking him up and down. He has trousers and a shirt on, top two buttons undone, very handsome.
âShall we go and mingle?â Hunter says, offering me his arm.
The atmosphere is great; everyone is friendly and in high spirits, more so than they have been all week. The food is as delicious as it looks, and I end up trying everything, which results in eating far too much. Hunter barley leaves my side as we spend the evening talking to each other and to the other guests.
After the remaining food has been taken away, there is dancing. Hunter happily dances with me to the slow music, and it feels nice to be in his arms. It makes me feel loved. Itâs a lovely evening and I feel just at home here in this place, and with Hunter.
At the end of the night, I get the present that I brought for Hunter and the card that I made. First, I give him the card.
âThank you. Itâs lovely. You donât have to thank me for spending time with you. I have enjoyed every minute of it,â Hunter says after reading the card.
âI have, too. I also got you a small gift. Itâs not much, but I hope you like it.â Iâm a bit nervous now about how he will react to it.
âYou didnât have to, but thank you,â He says, giving me a brief kiss before opening it eagerly. Itâs the bunting I got from the market.
âItâs for your shop. You said you liked the name I suggested, and when I saw this, I thought it would look great in the shop. The lady who made it says she can make anything you like in that material, so you could have cushion covers. It feels a bit silly now.â I start feeling embarrassed, with my face heating up to show it.
âI love it. It will go great on the counter. Thank you,â Hunter says and kisses me again.
âI got you one more thing,â I say, holding out another gift.
âItâs amazing and looks just like the one we made,â Hunter says, amazed at the snowman in his hands.
âThe lady at the market said she makes some to order, so I thought of our snowman.
